Due Date

I'm due for my monthly visit from Aunt Flo tomorrow. And dejavu, having not had a visit from her thus far, I'm again wondering, again, if we've hit the jackpot. Of course considering 2 rounds back Flo was late for like 5 days? I knew better than to expect a BFP. Logically of course I knew that, plus all the signs that her visit was pending are there. But I'll be kidding myself if I didn't confess that I do entertain some thought on the possibility, no matter how slim. Slim coz this month was just bad; I was sick, we had many days OT, hardly considered active, and there seemed no evidence of ovulation. Nonetheless... I know we'll prob hazard a guess by end of this week. If still no sign of a visit, then i'll have to pee on the stick...

Blogging from office

Am blogging now from office at 6.30pm. waiting for my class to commence at 7-9pm. its been a tiring few weeks for me as i recover from an illness (which allowed me to escape a couple of late nights and weekends at the office but still had to come back for night classes with a fever of 38.7 and no voice, hoping not to spread the bug to the students) only to plunge back neck deep in work. Its crazy time at the poly as events line up back-to-back like the open house and the new option launch. its as if education itself is trying to catch up with the fast changing times, yet always appearing 2 steps behind (certainly so in terms of remuneration). not for the 1st time, i'm wondering if perhaps the institution has lost sight of its original mission and duty, which is to educate students (and not to pander to them, nor to create a young, attractive and vibrant image, nor to get great passiing rates etc)

Ming too have been keeping some late nights at the office, since three nights back. at least tonight i ain't sitting home alone waiting for him to come home while the stupid bugs that were dug out from the upgrading site feasted on my flesh and blood. Starting to regret not slipping out of singapore when we had the chance to back in december. but hopefully come april, we'll be able to squeese out some time from both schedules to get out. several admin stuff like taking leave, buying cny stuff, booking flights or simply signing up for internet connection has been put on hold. as such i wonder if we are as ready for parenthood as we hope. anyway ready is as ready does. but many things is beyond control. have to wait and see lor.

How much for a city view?

Much attention was shone on Boon Keng recently as people suddenly realised its proximity to the city thanks to Hoi Hup. Of course majority of the chatter went on about how expensive they were gonna price the City View development, considering the $8k income ceiling in order to qualify for the purchase. For the uninitiated, City View, despite its glam name, is still 'just an HDB'. You can get a spanking new 5 room, totally done up 'like condo like that' at about $700k, just a tad above the recently closed price of $630k for a 5 room resale flat in the vicinity, which was a stone's throw further from the MRT when compared to City View. And for the clueless, Boon Keng is along the NEL, 3 stops from Dhoby Ghuat MRT. And, don't feel bad if thats the case. Before the DBSS sale, i think only a handful people I came across actually knew where Boon Keng was.

Anywho... Curious as cats, we decided to check out what's the big deal. We went there just shy of the opening expecting minimal crowd, since, unlike condo sales last time, it wasn't a first come first served basis. Surprise surprise, we were group number 57. Even before the show flat opened, there was a large group b4 us. Many among them drove and sprouted designer labels like LV and Burberry. Did these people really earn <$8k?? We couldn't photograph the units, but personally, I felt too much space was allocated to the balconies and bay windows. But I guess that was the reason for their pricing and name ya? City View afterall must mean that the city's view is its main selling point? Location-wise i felt it really wasn't much to complain about. And the card access required for the lifts would kinda give the HDB an exclusive feel. The biggest problem I think is financing. Do the many people who signed up to ballot for a unit there and then on the spot, really know that they had to fork out wads of CASH each month? That there was no way CPF was gonna be enough to finance a $700k flat? Besides, the flats were only gonna be ready in 2011. And before the key to the flat is even minted, buyers will need to put down a full 20% of the price. Hmm, only for those who can really afford it i guess. Perhaps most just registered their interest for fun?

After the flat viewing, we popped by Thomson Medical to welcome a new addition into our friend's family. It was adorable to see baby Rylee swaddled in the blankets snoozing away. The room they resided in was even more...amazing. But at $900 a night, it was no wonder the single bed ward rivaled a hotel room, with a sliding door to separate the ward from the private 'living' area for receiving guests. 2 flat screen tvs ensured that both guests and patient remained entertained. 2 toilets allow patient and guests to seek relief. Indulgence at its pinnacle. As we walked out of the hospital (parking was full), we noticed one of the cars leaving, and the LED lights indicated its parking bill at a whopping $13. What? did the visitor stay overnight there??

Indeed, signs were abound that Singaporeans were doing well. Flashing carats and branded watches pepper the commuters onboard the MRT as I make my way to work, not to mention queues of people trying to get into branded boutiques and a 2-month waitlist for my friend's LV. Houses at previously unimaginable prices are snapped up like hotcakes. Parking is full everywhere we went (remember Bugis??) despite oil prices reaching $100 US bucks per barrel. I can't help but wonder.....

.... what am i doing wrong???? hahaha...

Tougher than I thought

Been trying to track my temperature and mucus but this really is tougher than i thought. its been more than 2 weeks, coming 3, and i still havent found out how to detect the fluid. could it be that i'm one of those women who don't ovulate monthly? i measured my temperature a full 2 days before the battery ran dry. so again, unable to track... hai, fated lah haha mabbe i better stick to my plan of 2 years honeymoon period. ;P even if it means i'll be a mother only when i past 30 :(

My first SPPA

Today we went to The Alumni Medical Centre at SGH for a talk, Joys of Marriage & Baby. I have to say, it was kind of a wasted trip, with only the final hour, the O&G talk by Dr Paul Tan (the reason we were there anyway) being of any interest whatsoever. Nonetheless, we tried to make the best of the wasted afternoon and took home some lessons, brochures and samples. I had previously signed up for the next session Sexual Intimacy & Planning a Baby – “A Recipe For Better Sex” on Jan 26th at HDB hub, but the lackluster of today's talk really made me have second thoughts. But i think we will still attend the Jan one lah. Dr Chua Yang is the gynae of one of my friends, so maybe i should at least go and check her out. I really don't know how else i can get to check out these gynaes without paying tonnes of consultation fees. and if i don't meet them, how i know if i wanna be treated by them or not?
