Question that floored me

Last night when we were trying to sleep, Tanya popped a question that totally floored me. "Mummy, don't forget Tanya ok?" And after much reassurances, "Mummy take care of baby and Tanya ok?"

I wonder if she's already starting to feel the potential neglect now that baby is almost here...

School updates

The last two days (Wed and today), Tanya's been really brave and going in on her own now that she doesnt throw a crying fit. Preparing for school however is sometimes still a bit of a challenge as she is reluctant to get ready. But nice to see things are improving!

school: week 2 day 2

Today (Tuesday), for the first time when me and Ming left her there, she did not cry! She bravely kissed us and ventured forward to hold Mrs Wong's hand =) So proud of my baby! Although maybe she was too stunned from me having driven her to school hehe Later will be driving to my sis place.. gulp! Good luck to myself!

Very trying, tiring few days

Monday Tanya started school. Monday and Tuesday went well because I could stay with her. I guess I should have done more to prepare her for when I will not be there with her but I was too busy getting her to enjoy her classes and being an assistant teacher ... faint

Came Wednesday, must have been one of the toughest few hours of my life. I was asked to keep out of sight. Its so difficult in earshot but not within sight; hearing your child cry for you and ask "Why mummy go?" "Why won't mummy come?" I cried so much the principal asked me if I was okay...fainted. But as I was discretely shooed out of school, she settled in and participated more than when I was in class with her. (The principal took photos to show me ;P what a great school...)

When I collected her, she seemed well enough and even said she liked school. Home was annoyingly noisy with very loud drilling going on so we had to take refuge at my in law's place after lunch. That night I had a terrible fight with Ming. Its so hard being a mother and wife. Sometimes I forget how blessed I am to have Ming and Tanya....

Today I hoped and prayed she'll be fine, with all my reassurances that I will leave her there and pick her later for yummy food. She even repeated after me. But in school when I was to leave, she refused to say goodbye and cried again. Mrs Wong carried her off to the playground while I was asked to take my leave. Now at home, finishing up chores and waiting for time to prepare her lunch then collect her from school.

BFN

After another night of disturbed rest, decided to get it over and done with. Result above. I hate the guessing and misreading all my signs. Sigh. Ah well I knew there was v slim chance as timing was quite off. You know what they say about dreams opposite to reality. I actually dreamt I got a positive test. Lol. Well it's back to the drawing board I guess.

Tanya turns 2

Last Sunday marked Tanya's big day as she turned 2. We celebrated in a little gathering at the Sunhaven function room. At least use once before selling away =)

At 2, she is finally picking up speech. At 20-22 months she could hardly speak a handful of words plus not yet put 2 words together. We had made an appointment to see a specialist.

But at 22 months, it was like a switch came on and she started picking up more words. To date, she speaks countless (coz i can't count) number of words and can put up to 3 words together, but her diction isn't clear (but ok she's still young ya)

She sometimes prattles off the alphabet A-Z to herself (sans W, which she can't yet pronounce), and counts 1-10 in english and chinese (except seven for the same reason). She speaks more naturally, even to strangers in the lift, which I take as a good sign.

Her favourite toy is the Kuma turtle, which I cannot pry off her hands long enough for a wash, not even after buying two bigger Kumas for her. She still wants her "small small turtle" ('no, no, no', not the 'Big big turtle')

Her favourite program is Pocoyo, and she can call Elly and Pato but calls Lula 'ula'. hehee. I love my little princess... Happy birthday my sweet

Updates: She is almost 90cm and 12kg. String together up to 4 words at this update (20th Oct)
Just took her MMR jab and she's 89cm and 11.kg =) (23 Oct)

Noddy's cap

Tanya's new interest is her cousins' Noddy doll. Yesterday night before bed, she tapped on Noddy's cap and then on her head so I took out her outing hat to let her wear " same as Noddy". She happily admired herself and Noddy in the mirror then pointed to my head, so I had to dig out an old cap to follow along in her game.

She had also asked for Noddy's feet to be covered after seeing that her other doll wears shoes. After putting on her old pair of socks on Noddy, she tried to put on socks for herself.

Wonder what other strange requests she might have once she actually starts talking :)

18 months

Tanya turns 18 months this weekend. She's about 10.6kg now, yet to take her measles shot so i'm not sure her height, but looks to be about 80cm? So I've checked with this and it puts her about 50th percentile. Although some have commented she looks big for her age? She's also got her her teeth except her molars, able to walk forward and backward, run and climb lots of stuff now. But not yet able to jump.

She fell from the stairs at my sis place once. Scared the heck out of my sis, who's alarmed shout scared the heck out of Tanya and me hehe... Small bump on her head that faded in about a day, so hopefully meant not a bad fall.

Foodwise, she's starting to be picky. Still taking 3 milk feeds a day, 180ml each feed. Starting to be naughty and assert herself when we least want it =) but also being really cute and cheeky otherwise.

A little grownup now, she's really no longer a baby. Makes me miss some of the things she did in the past. Like last time she would come kiss me at night when I was pretending to sleep. Super miss that! Hehe... Funny thing is, about a year back, I thought that this overwhelming emotion for her must be a instinctive response for us mothers to protect their offspring so the next generation will continue and the race will not die out. I thought it would fade as she grows older; yet I feel more for her now then ever before. I guess love knows no boundary huh =)

Self Feeding

(backdated)

I had been toying some time on the idea of letting Tanya self feed from a spoon. It was mainly spurred by my greedy girl's constant interest in trying to grab the spoon we were using to feed her during each of her meals. She was already proficient in eating all on her own the Japanese wafer biscuits we got her. She can also eat dried cranberries and fresh blueberries with great relish. I guess it was just a matter of time we move onto the spoon.

I had to do a bit of research what food was best, and I decided on mashed potatoes with broccoli and milk. Would have added cheddar and fish but I didn't have any at hand. Besides, I doubt much of her first feeding will land in her belly. Of course, as expected, it was a mess, with food landing on the floor (minimal to my surprise), clothes, bib, tray and even her hair, face and nose. But she really enjoyed the process, refusing to let me feed her. She did however allow me to assist spooning the mash onto her spoon, or guide her spoon to her mouth. hehe more fun watching than the cleaning up later.

First Purchase

(backdated)
Tanya made her first purchase last saturday. I didn't know she know the concept leh. Then we took her to walk around in Sheng Siong, the nearest supermarket for us. There she caught sight of the Gardenia raisin bread and grabbed hold of it and wouldn't let go. So we let her hang onto her precious item and took her to walk walk inside SS. We thought we could 'con' her mah. Maybe swap for something or until she gets tired of holding it. But after the walk, we tried to get her to put it back, she wouldn't. Give to Mummy or Papa, she also don't want. So okay lah, I mean bread only, we also need to eat so okay lor, we caved and brought the bread to the cashier. Amazingly, she cordially gave the bread up to the cashier. Previously when we buy her toys, she would kick a fuss when we made her give up her item to the cashier for scanning. Does this mean she really understands what it means to pay at the cashier...??

Updates

Okay I guess I had been really lazy in updating ;P

But Tanya's walking forwards, backwards and even running now. Climbing of course too. Eyes are needed all over her. So active we tried to bring her to some weekend trial classes. Will try more then maybe sign up for one after the CNY hopefully.

Teethwise all her front teeth and her premolars are out. Waiting on the molars and incisors. These really give us a headache when it comes to her night sleep pattern. She will wake and cry inconsolably. Hence panda eyes for me and dad.

Recently she has also grown really attached to her Pediped shoes and would refuse to wear any others. Gives me headache for the brand new Crocs we got her for the coming CNY. Hope can psycho her before the CNY comes along.

Night feeds are interesting too as she will entertain herself playing peekaboo with the cat on her chair. She will hide it under the strap then "eh eh" make signs that the cat is missing, then will reveal the cat happily pointing out "eh!" hahaha. she also loves the set of tigers I dug out for the cny, hugging all four of them in her arms. wonder if i will be able to get a shot of that

Weaning

Its a sad sad day that we decided to wean her :( So now I'm pumping only once in office, even then I don't empty them, but pump enough for my own comfort. I must say I'm quite reluctant, but she's almost 11 months, so I got to do it eventually. Best do it now during term break. Once school starts, will have no time to pump anyway.

She's been terrible the last few nights, waking up at 2am to 4am refusing to sleep. So yesterday and the day before that I had massive headaches. Yesterday I succumbed took MC, reluctantly leaving her with my in laws, despite being at home. I must say, time alone is really therapeutic! I really do miss being free and easy and able to do anything I wanted! But not quite as much as I missed her hehe...

Did I mention she's now eating pasta? Coz of her taking so little milk, i'm trying to introduce calcium rich foods like cheese. I bought those chedder cheeses available at the cheese deli? kind, to reduce processing. like $6 for 6 slices or something like that. Really ex as far as chedder goes, and grated it over her brocolli pasta. Glad she loves it =)

Its been so long

since i last posted, since then so much has changed. i've come back to work, tanya now eating tons of porridge now, but not wanting milk any more. she taking very little milk which leaves me really worried; like when i'm at work only about 3oz (<100ml) 3x. she needs at least twice that amount daily...:(

I also just started seeing the start of her top left tooth erupting yesterday when she was laughing. waited so long for the first signs of pearlies and suddenly she has 3 erupting! tried to catch photo of them but they are really elusive! probably coz they are still half baked hehe

she's geting really active and starting to know things and get curious. also getting wary of strangers as compared to her friendly self before. We have been going out every week, from zoo to bird park to swimming and singpore flyer etc trying to keep her entertained =) tons of pics been uploaded to facebook, coz thats much easier to do than blogging hehe, i'm turning to a brainless bird

hopefully got more chances to update soon.

Tanya is 6 months! =)

In a blink of an eye, another month has passed; and I haven't updated my blog this past month :( Many things have happened, like Tanya flipping over (finally! late, i know), Tanya thriving on her organic rice cereal, but I'm waiting til her to be 6 months to start other foods. I wanted to try avocado but couldn't ripen it. Gonna try again this weekend with a brown paper bag =), me returning to the poly for training of a new system we'll be using, and me finding out from there, much to my disappointment, that my pump output is too low, so we've started supplementing her with formula. Basically its been too busy for me to update much. Now I've just finished my training so waiting for half hour more before knock off =) thats the problem with training in the office, you have to hang around until knock off time anyway. bleah. Her appointment with PD for her jab is next tuesday. hopefully got chance to update more often.

Updated: reading backward then realised that I didn't mention she is NOT sleeping through the night yet =P indeed it was a fluke, but it happened again last night. So hopefully this means she is just about ready to sleep through..?

5th Month jab

Brought baby to PD for her 5th month jab. Very good girl leh! First time i think she slept through the night w/o waking up for milk. But hehe i think is fluke lah. Will give her more time to sleep thru night =) and at the PD, didn't cry at all when taking her injection! surprised me really. The first jab she cried until the babies outside oso cry lol. 2nd time she cried a bit when the needle went in. Today very good, din cry at all. Plus finished the rotarvirus vaccine in the syringe. =) Now she totally exhausted and cleeping. Love you my brave baby girl!

Bye Bye Baby

Today for the first time, I left baby in the care of my in laws, for almost full day. They came over for her morning bottle feed as per normal and then brought her home as usual. I went over for lunch bringing along her next milk feed. Then since I need to go back to work on 20th, I suggested that I leave her there and come back again at about 3pm with her next 2 feeds. My in laws agreed so here I am, home alone sans baby :( very mixed feeling. wonder how will it be like when i go back to work

First solid

Had really wanted to wait for her organic food to arrive before starting her on solids but there was some delay. I couldn't really wait liao so used the nestle sample pack to try. hee; would rate it fairly successful with most of it going into her but of course i didn't mix a lot. also the mixture was disappointingly watery. doesn't seem like 'solids' at all. lol but she seemed to enjoy it =) will post up the video after ming compress it. now; should i continue tomorrow?
